'The happiest place on earth' was the first definition of Finland that comes into my mind.
Hyvää päivää! I'm Kittidit Thanaditsuwan, a 27-year-old foreign news reporter from Thailand. For almost 5 years, I've been reporting for NationTV, the most-watched news channel in Thailand. I've had a chance to visit and report from many countries such as USA, Russia, Japan, and China. But never once did I travel to a European nation. Finland will be my first trip to Europe and I believe it will be a wonderful experience!
A friend from my hometown, a small province called Phrae, visited Finland few years ago. He's a teacher in a secondary school in Bangkok, so he's very impressed by Finland's education system. All great stories from that trip he posted via social media made me wonder how interesting Finland is. Apart from Nokia phones, Angry Birds, Moomin, and home of Santa Claus, I barely know about this Nordic country.
Fortunately, I will be spending 3 precious weeks in Helsinki and nearby cities this coming August (normally the warmest month) with young and talented journalists from other 15 countries under thisisFINLAND Foreign Correspondents’ Programme 2018. We will have fun exploring various aspects of Finland: from lakes, public sauna, history, and language, to education, startups, freedom of the press, and homeless people.
I'll try to share everything from my Helsinki trip to Thai people. Please stay tuned!
